It utilizes Specific Area Message Encoding (S.A.M.E.) technology which eliminates annoying alarms that don't apply to your specific area. The CKW2000 includes Emerson's standard clock radio features including: Sure-Alarm battery backup system, gradual buzzer alarm, wake to radio alarm, and programmable 90-minute sleep timer. The 20-station preset memory allows you to program up to 20 of your favorite radio stations - 10 AM and 10 FM. I'm not sure if the previous reviewer set up the SAME technology (weather reporting) settings correctly. You have to call in and get YOUR specific codes for your counties to set it up. You will also need to enter what "weather emergencies" you want the alarms to go off for - flash flooding, blizzard warnings, severe thunderstorm warnings, etc.
Anyway, we LOVE our All-Alert clock radio. With the severe weather we've had this summer in Iowa, we wanted to be sure that something would wake us up in a tornado warning to take the kids downstairs. This has done that - twice... which is well worth the money I spent. Once, I was watching our local weather newscast (severe weather was in counties west of us and was headed our way) and the meteorologist's weather alert "buzzer" in his weather room went off at the EXACT same time as this All-Alert radio, so I know that we are getting severe weather alerts when the meteorologists are.
This is a great device and potential life-saver. It's constantly out of stock at our local Super Target and it's a high-reorder item there. I like that it is a combined alarm clock - it simply replaced our existing bedroom alarm clock without adding another electronic device/cords to the bedroom. I'd definitely buy it again!! |
Good price and function

I like the combination of a weather radio and dual alarm. This unit also has improved reception over previous models that I have owned, both in the weather radio and am/fm functions. The price was also attractive. I liked the first one so much that I bought another one for my second residence.
Great Product for Great Price

I was going to buy a Midland weather readio for $[...] at a local retailer, but after researching different products, I found that Emerson offer a lot more for the same price. This radio allows users to specify which emergency should get alerts and which one doesn't. It will not annoy you with useless information or weather updates unless you program it to do so. The instructions were easy to follow and I feel like I have so much control of what alerts I want to come through. I would have easily paid $50 bucks for this $[...] radio, so if you want control and a sleak looking radio, you've found it.
Peace of mind at night

My husband and I just moved to Tornado Alley and we haven't found the right weather radio for the whole house yet, but I wanted something in our bedroom so we would know if there were bad storms coming. This radio is perfect, not only does it provide me with dual alarm clocks for my varied schedules, but it also provides that peace of mind at night. The back light on the clock was a little bright, but there is an option to turn it off and only have it come on when you are working with the clock or radio, which is perfect. To see the time at night I just hit the snooze button and there it is. The only bad thing I have seen about this is that it got a little messed up and all the lights for the weather and storm items were lighting up, according to research it happens to all of them, and you simply have to unplug and take the batteries out of the unit and then reset it all. Not a big deal, but you have to reprogram the whole unit, including the county code for the weather radio. While that is a decent draw back, the peace of mind makes that minuscule compared to not being prepared for a storm that could hurt myself or my family.
Living in FL, I love this radio!

I bought this radio from Target for under $30! Easy to program and the alerts are timely indeed! Only problem...can't find replacement power cord. My cat chewed the original one and the batteries don't last long. Othewise, the radio's a valuable asset.
