Choosing to Right Office Chair

There are quite a few different types of office chairs out there that can help you be more productive and at the same time add comfort to your work day. Ergonomic office chairs can be purchased so that your work day is filled with productivity instead of ‘ants in your pants’ syndrome because your back or hind quarters are hurting. Picking the right office chair has to start by looking at what kind of body you have, what you need for support, and last but not least, how the chair goes with your office design and decorum.

When choosing the perfect office chair you really have to be honest with yourself about your body. Whether you are tall and thin or you have a little too much baggage, the chair that you choose will dictate the level of comfort you will enjoy while working in that chair. The size and shape of your body will dictate whether you need a high back, low back, or mid back office chair. If you are a large person, the high back chair may not give you the support you need to make it through the day. This goes for tall people also. A low back chair may give you discomfort in your lower back because it is designed for shorter people.

Not only does the back of the chair need to be in alignment with your body but you also have to look at the arms of the office chair. If you use a keyboard, the position of your elbows on the arms of the chair needs to be at a safe and comfortable level with that keyboard. You need to measure your desk and find out exactly where the height of the arms needs to be in order to rest your elbows and at the same time give you the distance you need to type comfortably.

The height of your office chair is also important. People with short or long legs will be very uncomfortable in an office chair that does not fit their body. They will either have their feet dangling above the floor or they will have their knees pushed too high to be comfortable. If you can sit in your potential chair and put your feet flat on the ground and at the same time feel that your knees are not going to go into the bottom of the desk or be uncomfortable in any way, than you have found your perfect office chair.

Once you feel that the office chair is ergonomically adjusted to your body, you can start looking for office chairs that fit the personality and décor of your office. There are many office chairs that will give you the choice of color, material, and texture. It is your choice and your wallet that dictates which office chair will be right for you. The world is your oyster, but choose wisely, because a bad office chair can cause discomfort, pain, and make your life miserable at work.
